A slow, scripted response that didn’t help

it’s basically pre-judged by the trade term (DAP in my case) and the system will automatically mark the cost as my responsibility if no agreement is logged within 30 days. That automatic bit — and the templated email explaining it — is what annoyed me most. It’s a small line in their process but it changes everything for the buyer. You feel written off before you’ve had a fair shot at negotiating. I’d already had a decent chat with an agent (that felt useful at the time), but after that the replies became slow and very formulaic. The emailed “solution” read like a script, repeated policy, and then closed with a generic sign-off. There was frustration, sure — annoyed, annoyed but trying to keep it practical. I sent more info, referenced the chat transcript, and specifically asked for escalation. That was late November / early December; by Christmas I was still waiting for a meaningful follow-up. It wasn’t the product or the supplier alone (Guangzhou Fengwangfa Technology) — it was the platform’s dispute pathway that felt stacked against the buyer once certain terms are in play. I don’t want to say nothing works — the site is convenient and many suppliers are fine — but in this case the customer service cadence and the auto-closure logic made me feel ignored, which is worse than a slow refund. If you’re buying on DAP, be aware you might need to chase hard and expect automated decisions unless you can get an actual person to commit to mediation. Bit of advice: document everything and push for escalation early. Otherwise you’ll end up repeating yourself and waiting.

    Lesson from a soggy pallet

I’m in the warehouse with a cuppa, counting cartons, and realise we’re short. Placed an order for 945 cartons of gloves, but only 910 turned up — 35 missing. The supplier later admitted they’d miscalculated how many would fit in the container. Classic shrug moment. Then, funnily enough, the ones that did arrive were a bit of a mess — patchy colour, sizes all over the place, lighter than they should be and noticeably thinner than their own specs. I took photos, videos, weighed and measured a bunch — the evidence stack was solid.
I kicked off a Trade Assurance dispute and got stuck in a five‑month game of pass‑the‑parcel. Alibaba kept missing their own response windows, went quiet for ages, and shuffled the case between teams without any proper update. At several points the supplier only uploaded Chinese‑language docs despite our contract being in English, and Alibaba accepted that without translating or explaining — left me trying to decode stuff and feeling pretty disadvantaged. The supplier also changed stories a few times (CAD, then USD, then “our fiscal year closed, so we can’t honour that earlier offer”) — messy.
After months of back-and-forth the so‑called resolution was a tiny discretionary credit, not a proper refund consistent with Trade Assurance promises. I’ve had other suppliers sort issues faster and more transparently, so this was disappointing. Small win: my evidence was thorough and I learned a lot about documenting shipments. Big downside: delivery and customer service were the weak links here. If you’re buying bulk overseas, be ready for slow dispute handling and don’t assume the platform will do the heavy lifting for you.
