Most of what you need to know about Funky3DFaces is in their name. Their miniature figure heads are funky. The minifigure heads are made using a 3D printer. How successful of a gift is this product? If you create your own or someone else’s head in miniature, to what extent do the real and miniature versions look alike? Are they fairly priced or overcharged? How durable are the mini-figure heads? Is making your own miniature head an easy and straightforward process? These questions are answered in the reviews on this website!
Funky3DFaces comes out of a parent company that is not funky at all. ELAT3D Ltd is a very serious business indeed, making 3D printed bones and architectural models. But the people of ELAT3D did not only want to serve the medical industry and architects, but also their inner child. So they started having fun with their 3D printers. Problem was that making things with 3D printers is really expensive. So creating something small was a natural consequence.
The first project was making miniature figures. But this turned out to be too expensive and too complex to do on a large scale. Looking for an alternative, they started making miniature figure heads. If you stick the head to the body of a LEGO, you basically get a customizable LEGO-figure. No wonder the crowd at Comic Con went wild after being introduced to the concept. Three months after Comic Con, Funky 3D Faces released its website, and three days later it went viral globally.
In this interview with Beyond the Brick, the founder of Funky3DFaces talks about his LEGO minifigures.
Do you want to know just how customizable the 3D faces are? The gallery on Funky3DFaces’ websites shows lots of people proudly posing with their own Lego figure. On these photos, the likeness between the people and their Lego figures is remarkable.
